The Himachal Pradesh Police have launched a statewide drive against drunk driving, issuing fines to 1246 motorists. This campaign, which started on September 24 and will continue until October 8, is directed by Dr. Atul Verma, the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh.

The initiative aims to reduce road accidents and promote a culture of safe and responsible driving. During the first week of the campaign, from September 24 to October 1, police checked 46,901 vehicles across various districts for drunken driving. As a result, 1246 challans were issued, and 290 individuals were arrested under Section 202 of the MV Act for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Additionally, the police recommended the suspension of 483 driving licenses of offenders. This step is part of a comprehensive strategy to ensure that violators face appropriate consequences, thereby acting as a deterrent to others.

Drunken driving is a major cause of road accidents. This ongoing campaign is part of the police’s commitment to making the roads safer for everyone. The public is urged to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol and support the efforts to make Himachal Pradesh a safer place.
