Taiwan Monitors Chinese Military Activity Amid Rising Tensions
On December 22, Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported the detection of 11 Chinese military aircraft and 6 naval vessels operating around Taiwan. Of these, 8 aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, entering Taiwan's southwestern and southeastern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). The MND assured that the situation was monitored and responded to accordingly.
Earlier, on Saturday, Taiwan detected 9 Chinese military aircraft and 5 naval vessels, with 6 aircraft crossing into Taiwan's ADIZ. These actions have raised concerns about regional stability as China continues to assert its claims over Taiwan.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte criticized China's stance, stating that China is "bullying Taiwan" and expanding its military capabilities without transparency. He highlighted China's growing nuclear arsenal and space-launch investments.
In response to the tensions, Taiwan received 38 M1A2T Abrams tanks from the United States, marking the first US tank delivery to Taiwan in 23 years. This delivery is part of a larger order of 122 tanks. While some experts question the tanks' suitability for Taiwan's terrain, they are seen as a significant boost to Taiwan's defense capabilities.
The Taiwan-China issue remains a complex geopolitical conflict, with China viewing Taiwan as a breakaway province under the "One China" policy, while Taiwan maintains its independence. In December alone, Taiwan detected 331 Chinese military aircraft and 220 ships, highlighting the ongoing tensions.
