Honoring Mahatma Gandhi’s 155th Birth Anniversary

On October 2, 2024, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) celebrated Swachh Bharat Diwas to commemorate the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The university organized several events under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Mela 2024.’

Awareness Rally

Volunteers from the National Service Scheme (NSS) at JMI, led by Programme Officer Dr. Abid Hussain, participated in an awareness rally. The rally was flagged off by Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Shakeel and Officiating Registrar M Nasim Haider from the VC Office premises and concluded at the Centenary Gate after covering the campus and nearby areas. Teachers and non-teaching staff also joined the rally.

Exhibition and Lecture

Dr. Zakir Husain Library and the Office of the Deans Students’ Welfare (DSW) organized an exhibition titled ‘Mahatma Gandhi: Life and Works,’ which was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor. The exhibition features handwritten letters of Mahatma Gandhi, his photographs, books, and a copy of his newspaper ‘Young India.’ It will be open for one week. A special lecture on Gandhi’s life and legacy was delivered by Professor Ravindran Gopinath from the Department of History, JMI.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Deputy Librarian Dr. Sufian Ahmad.
