Karti Chidambaram Defends Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Appointment as Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram has defended the appointment of Udhayanidhi Stalin as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He stated that the Chief Minister has the right to induct, drop, or promote anyone, and has acted within his prerogative.

Chidambaram dismissed arguments of dynasty politics as ‘boring’ and noted that all political parties have similar dynamics, including the DMK.

On the other hand, AIADMK leader Kovai Sathyan criticized the state government, calling it a perfect example of dynasty rule in the name of democracy. He predicted that the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections would see alliance parties drifting away from DMK and the party splitting into factions.

BJP national spokesperson Shezad Poonawalla also criticized the INDIA bloc, claiming that the parties follow a ‘son rise model’ by promoting their own family members to positions of power.

Udhayanidhi Stalin, who was previously the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, was appointed Deputy Chief Minister on September 28. He will now also handle the portfolio of planning and development.
