Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya Honors Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on Their Birth Anniversaries

On October 2, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya led the state in paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 155th birth anniversary at Sarania Ashram in the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust, Guwahati. Governor Acharya emphasized Gandhi’s enduring ideals of truth and non-violence, and praised his efforts in cleanliness, women’s empowerment, self-reliance, and farmers’ rights.

The Governor highlighted the state’s ‘Orunodoi 3.0’ scheme, which aims to uplift women, including the underprivileged, and improve their socio-economic status. He also planted a sapling at the ashram and called for the preservation of the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust.

In another event at Raj Bhavan, Governor Acharya, along with officers and staff, paid floral tributes to both Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, administered a non-violence pledge.

Governor Acharya also inaugurated the first public screening of the documentary ‘Adi Shakti Maa Kamakhya Devi’ at Aideo Cinema Theatre in Guwahati. Directed by Pradip Chandra Sarma, the film explores the spiritual and cultural significance of Maa Kamakhya Devi. The Governor highlighted the temple’s role in fostering unity and promoting India’s cultural heritage.
