The State Election Commission of Uttarakhand has announced that a total of 6,496 nominations have been received for the upcoming Municipal Local Body General Elections for the year 2024-25. The deadline for submitting nominations was Monday, with the process having started on December 27.
According to the Commission, 103 nominations were submitted for the position of City Head in Municipal Corporations, and 2,325 for the role of Councillor. In Municipal Palika Parishads, 284 nominations were received for Chairman and 1,922 for Member positions. For Nagar Panchayats, 295 nominations were filed for Chairman and 1,567 for Member roles.
In total, 682 nominations were filed for City Head or Chairman positions, and 5,814 for Councillor or Member roles. Candidates have the option to withdraw their nominations by January 2.
The elections will be held for 11 Municipal Corporations, 43 Municipal Councils, and 46 Nagar Panchayats. Voting is scheduled for January 23, 2025, with the counting of votes on January 25, 2025.
