In Dharamshala, India, Sikyong Penpa Tsering, leader of the Central Tibetan Administration, expressed deep gratitude to Uzra Zeya, the outgoing US Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues. In a heartfelt letter, Sikyong praised the Biden administration's efforts, especially under Zeya's leadership, in supporting Tibet's cause. He highlighted the quick appointment of the Special Coordinator and the positive impact of US political actions on Tibet.
Sikyong thanked Zeya for her role in strengthening US-Tibet relations, noting her frequent engagements with the Dalai Lama and visits to Dharamshala. He also mentioned the Resolve Tibet Act, signed by President Biden, which gained bipartisan support and encouraged international efforts for Tibet.
Additionally, Sikyong acknowledged former Under Secretaries Richard Verma and Kurt Campbell for their dedication to Tibet, and the ongoing support from the US Department of State and USAID. He emphasized the need for continued international support to preserve Tibetan civilization.
Earlier, Uzra Zeya sent a letter to Sikyong, thanking him for his cooperation and promising continued support for Tibet. Meanwhile, the Tibetan Government in-Exile plans to create a book and map with original Tibetan names to counter China's renaming policies. Tibetans in exile expressed dismay over China's use of 'Xizang' for Tibet, especially during recent earthquake reports.
