Movement for Constitutional Status in Pakistan-Occupied Gilgit-Baltistan

In Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan (PoGB), religious and political parties have initiated a movement to secure constitutional status for the region. Both opposition and administration have urged the federal government to address this issue promptly. This demand was highlighted during a discussion titled 'Important Political Issues of PoGB and Their Solutions' at Islamabad's National Press Club. The event, organized by various political parties, concluded with a joint statement emphasizing the need for constitutional recognition and identity for PoGB.

The declaration pointed out the lack of collective efforts by local parties for PoGB's constitutional rights. It was agreed that all political and religious parties would work together for the region's political rights. Speakers at the event stressed the urgent need to address financial issues, urging stakeholders to make sincere efforts beyond political differences. The declaration called for the implementation of proposals for PoGB's provisional constitutional province status.

Additionally, lawyers in PoGB have demanded equal rights and access to basic facilities like healthcare and specialized courts, which are available in other parts of Pakistan. They highlighted the absence of dedicated courts in PoGB, causing delays in justice delivery. The lawyers' protest reflects growing frustration over resource exploitation, financial mismanagement, and daily atrocities faced by PoGB residents. Despite ongoing protests and demands, the grievances of PoGB people remain unaddressed.
