On January 17, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi warmly welcomed Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and his wife to the state. Majhi expressed his delight in a post, referring to Odisha as 'the land of the Lord.'
Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs, highlighted that President Shanmugaratnam is on a four-day state visit to India. During this visit, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed, focusing on areas such as green hydrogen, green shipping, industrial parks, petrochemical complexes, and skill development, particularly in the semiconductor field.
The President's visit to Odisha is part of his interest in exploring the eastern part of India, a desire he expressed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Singapore. The visit aligns with the Prime Minister's Purvodaya initiative, which aims to develop the Eastern region of India.
The visit also marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore. To commemorate this occasion, both the President of India and the President of Singapore released a special logo. During his stay, President Shanmugaratnam will attend a banquet hosted by the Chief Minister and meet with the Governor. He will also visit the Sun Temple in Konark and an artist's village.
