During a meeting with Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel, agreements were signed for the next phase of High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) to boost Maldives' growth and strengthen bilateral ties.
Jaishankar highlighted discussions on development cooperation, economic and security ties, and fintech and people-to-people connections. He emphasized India's commitment to the Maldives' prosperity.
The Neighbourhood First policy focuses on enhancing connectivity and trade with neighboring countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The SAGAR vision aims for a peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
Maldives FM Abdulla Khaleel expressed gratitude for India's unwavering support and commitment to strengthening the partnership. He arrived in Delhi for a three-day official visit, marking his first official visit to India.
In the previous HICDP phase, Jaishankar inaugurated projects in street lighting, mental health, children's speech therapy, and special education. An MoU was also signed for a digital payment system in the Maldives, reflecting growing bilateral relations.
