Ukraine has launched a counterattack in Russia's Kursk region, with Ukrainian forces surprising Russian troops in various locations. Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation, confirmed the attacks. Andriy Yermak, from the Ukrainian Presidential Office, shared the news on Telegram, stating that Russia is "getting what it deserves."
In August, Ukrainian forces first entered Kursk and have maintained control over much of the territory despite Russian and North Korean efforts to push them back. The Russian Defence Ministry reported that Ukrainian counterattacks were repelled near Berdin village, using air power against Ukrainian forces.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Russian forces lost a battalion of North Korean soldiers and Russian paratroopers near Makhnovka village. Unofficial Russian military blogs reported ongoing fighting, with Ukrainian forces advancing towards Berdin.
Colonel Oleksii Dmytrashkivskyi, a Ukrainian officer, described heavy bombardment in Sudzha town, with drones and missiles causing destruction. He reported 39 deaths and over 100 injuries, with 2,000 people trapped in a boarding school.
Meanwhile, Russian forces claimed advances near Kurakhove town in eastern Ukraine.
