Clash at Durand Line: Taliban and Pakistani Forces Engage in Deadly Exchange
In the Upper Kurram district along the Durand Line, a violent clash occurred between Taliban forces and Pakistani border posts. The Taliban targeted areas including Ghozgarhi, Matha Sangar, Kot Ragha, and Tari Mengal using both light and heavy weaponry. Reports indicate that seven to eight Taliban personnel were killed, while one Pakistani soldier lost his life and 11 others were injured. The Taliban claimed that 19 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the exchange.
This incident followed Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan's Barmal district, which reportedly killed 46 people. The Pakistani military stated these strikes targeted Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) bases, resulting in the destruction of four bases and the deaths of several militants. However, the Taliban's Ministry of Defence contested this, claiming that the strikes also affected Waziristani refugees.
According to sources, TTP militants attempted to enter Pakistan through Taliban checkpoints but were unsuccessful. In retaliation, militants and Afghan forces fired on Pakistani posts, leading to significant losses on the Afghan side, with over 15 militants reported dead.
