Mintoo explained that since Hasina is residing in a democratic country like India, she can contest the extradition request in court. Mintoo stressed the importance of a fair trial for every Bangladeshi citizen, stating that an unfair trial leads to an unfair judgment. He reiterated that while Bangladesh can demand extradition, Hasina has the right to defend herself in India. The outcome depends on how the treaty is interpreted by the Indian court.
On December 23, the Ministry of External Affairs in India confirmed receiving a Note Verbale from the Bangladesh High Commission regarding Hasina's extradition. However, they offered no further comments on the matter.
