S Jaishankar Meets Qatar’s Prime Minister in Saudi Arabia
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Saudi Arabia. They discussed ways to strengthen the relationship between India and Qatar. Jaishankar appreciated the insights and assessments shared by the Qatari Prime Minister on regional developments.
The two leaders had previously met in Doha in June, where they talked about enhancing cooperation in various sectors and addressing regional challenges. Jaishankar conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Qatar’s Amir, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Qatari Prime Minister.
Jaishankar emphasized the strong India-Qatar relationship, highlighting cooperation in political, trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
Visit to Saudi Arabia
Jaishankar arrived in Riyadh for a two-day visit to attend the First India-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. He was welcomed by Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister for Protocol Affairs, Abdulmajeed Al Smari.
During his visit, Jaishankar toured the Saudi National Museum and King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives. He noted the deep historical connections between India and Saudi Arabia, which serve as a foundation for a strong contemporary relationship.
Jaishankar is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from GCC member countries. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the deep and multifaceted relationship between India and the GCC, covering political, trade, investment, energy, cultural, and people-to-people ties.
The GCC region is a major trading partner for India and is home to around 8.9 million Indians. The Foreign Ministers’ meeting aims to review and deepen cooperation between India and the GCC.
Upcoming Visits
After his visit to Riyadh, Jaishankar will travel to Germany for a two-day visit from September 10-11, followed by a trip to Switzerland.
