After leading the Pakistan cricket team since 2019, star batter Babar Azam has announced that he will step down as the white-ball captain. Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is likely to take his place, according to a report from Geo News.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials will hold meetings with Rizwan for team selection. Babar Azam was not asked to resign; instead, he chose to step down to focus on his performance and personal life. Babar shared his decision on social media, expressing gratitude for the support he received from fans.

During his tenure, Pakistan did not win any major tournaments. They were eliminated from the Asia Cup in the Super 4 stage and failed to reach the knockout stage of the ODI World Cup in India. Babar has played 54 Test matches, 117 ODIs, and 123 T20Is, scoring thousands of runs across formats.

Pakistan will soon face England in a three-match Test series on home soil, starting October 7 in Multan.
