In Dehradun, Uttarakhand, an important agreement was signed between the Uttarakhand Government and the Indian Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at the Chief Minister's residence. The event was attended by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Animal Husbandry Minister Saurabh Bahuguna.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focuses on supplying local products like live goats, sheep, chicken, and fish to the ITBP battalion stationed in Uttarakhand under the Vibrant Village Scheme. The agreement was signed by Secretary Dr. BVRC Purushottam from the Uttarakhand Government and IG Sanjay Gunjyal from ITBP.
Chief Minister Dhami highlighted that this agreement will enhance the livelihoods of local people and strengthen their connection to national security. He emphasized the role of border residents as the country's sentinels and noted that ITBP will serve as a brand ambassador for promoting local products.
Animal Husbandry Minister Saurabh Bahuguna expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Dhami for this initiative, which aims to boost the livelihoods of animal breeders and fish farmers, and help curb migration.
The agreement is expected to benefit over 11,000 animal breeders through more than 80 cooperative societies, including 7,000 women. It will support 10,000 sheep and goat breeders, over 800 poultry suppliers, and more than 500 fish farmers. This initiative marks the first large-scale market opportunity for these farmers in Uttarakhand, with an estimated annual turnover of 200 crores.
