Israeli delegation to visit Qatar today for hostage negotiations
Israel Sends Delegation to Qatar for Hostage Talks in Gaza
Israel is sending a team to Doha, Qatar, to restart discussions about a hostage agreement in the Gaza Strip. This team includes members from Mossad, Shin Bet, and the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF). The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, approved this visit to explore a potential hostage-ceasefire deal. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, a group representing the families of hostages, supports this move, urging the Prime Minister to ensure the return of all hostages.
Previously, in November 2024, Qatar paused its role as a mediator due to disagreements between Israel and Hamas. Both sides blamed each other for the stalled talks. However, there is cautious optimism about reaching an agreement. On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel, resulting in over 1,200 deaths and the abduction of more than 250 hostages. Some hostages were returned during a partial ceasefire in December 2023.
