Philemon Yang, the President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), arrived in New Delhi for a four-day visit to India. Invited by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Yang's visit aims to discuss key multilateral and regional issues. He will meet with President Droupadi Murmu to further strengthen India's relationship with the United Nations.
Randhir Jaiswal, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, expressed a warm welcome to Yang, highlighting the opportunity to enhance India-UN engagement as the United Nations approaches its 80th anniversary.
Yang, who became UNGA President on September 10, will also visit Bengaluru. There, he plans to explore India's innovations in sustainability and digital public infrastructures at Infosys and the Indian Institute of Science.
Under Yang's leadership, the United Nations adopted "A Pact for the Future," focusing on multilateral solutions for a better tomorrow. Yang, a former Prime Minister of Cameroon, advocates for global unity, peace, and human dignity. He praised India's efforts in supporting the Global South during his meeting with Jaishankar.
In a previous meeting in New York, Jaishankar assured Yang of India's support for his vision of "Unity in Diversity, Peace, Human Sustainability, and Dignity for everyone everywhere." Yang appreciated India's role in advancing the interests of the Global South.
During his visit, Yang will continue discussions with Indian leaders on global issues, aiming to strengthen the partnership between India and the United Nations, focusing on peace, development, and sustainability worldwide.
