Ukraine's Ambassador Hopes for PM Modi's Participation in Next Peace Summit

New Delhi, India - Ukraine's Ambassador to India, Oleksandr Polishchuk, expressed his hope that India will participate at a 'very senior level' in the upcoming Peace Summit. He mentioned that Ukraine would be delighted if Prime Minister Narendra Modi could attend, as his voice is highly respected globally.

In an interview, Polishchuk highlighted PM Modi's historical visit to Ukraine in August, where they had concrete discussions on achieving stable peace and resolving the Ukraine conflict. He noted that India had not signed the final communique after the Peace Summit in Switzerland but hoped for India's more significant role in future peace negotiations.

Polishchuk emphasized the importance of nuclear and food security for the region and expressed his desire for India's high-level participation in the next summit. He praised PM Modi's respected global voice and hoped for his personal involvement in the discussions.

During his visit to Ukraine on August 23, PM Modi met with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and reiterated the need for sincere and practical engagement among all stakeholders to develop innovative solutions for early peace restoration in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. PM Modi assured India's willingness to contribute to peace efforts.

India was represented by Secretary (West) Pavan Kapoor at the Peace Summit in Switzerland on June 15-16. The Indian delegation attended the Opening and Closing Plenary Sessions but did not associate with any communique or document from the summit. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that India's participation aligned with its consistent approach to facilitate a lasting and peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.

Polishchuk also mentioned NSA Ajit Doval's visit to Russia for a BRICS meeting, emphasizing the need for practical implications in peace discussions. He stressed the importance of convincing Russia to participate in the next peace summit.

The Ambassador highlighted India's role in global affairs, particularly in the Middle East peace negotiations, and expressed hope for India's active role in moderating peace discussions. He emphasized India's good relationships with both countries involved in the conflict.

A joint statement after PM Modi's visit to Ukraine reiterated the commitment to international law principles, including respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty. Both sides agreed on the importance of closer bilateral dialogue and peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy. The Ukrainian side welcomed India's participation in the Peace Summit and highlighted the importance of high-level Indian involvement in future summits.

The leaders appreciated efforts to ensure global food security, including the Ukrainian humanitarian grain initiative, and emphasized the importance of uninterrupted agricultural product supply to global markets, especially in Asia and Africa.
