The Federal Geographical Information Centre of the UAE, led by Director-General Hamed Al Kaabi, took part in the 12th meeting of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) for Arab States. This event was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from February 2nd to 6th. The UN-GGIM aims to coordinate geospatial information efforts among Arab countries through three main working groups: Geodetic Reference, Geospatial Governance, and Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (IGIF).
During the meeting, Anwaar Al Shimmari, Executive Director of the Geospatial Information Governance Sector, discussed women's empowerment in the Arab geospatial sector and presented the Comprehensive Geospatial Information Governance Plan for 2025-2026. Abdulla Al Naqbi, a Geodetic Expert, highlighted the UAE's advancements in geodetic reference systems.
The meeting also celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Arab Committee of UN Experts on Geospatial Information Management. It was attended by officials, experts, and representatives from Arab states and international organizations.
