In the first five days of February 2025, Karachi has witnessed a tragic rise in road accidents, resulting in the deaths of 14 people, including two women and five children. Over 100 individuals have been injured in these incidents. Despite efforts by authorities, traffic accidents continue to increase, with 83 fatalities and 1,220 injuries reported in the first 35 days of the year. A total of 1,304 traffic accidents have been documented so far.
To combat this issue, Karachi's Additional Inspector General and Police Chief, Javed Alam Odho, announced restrictions on dumpers moving through the city during peak hours. However, more than half of the 900 incidents this year have been fatal, posing a significant challenge for law enforcement.
In addition to traffic accidents, Karachi is also facing severe fire incidents. Between January 1 and January 28, 2025, at least 42 people, including five women, were killed in shooting incidents, with 233 others injured. These incidents occurred across various parts of the city, with some deaths resulting from robbery attempts.
Furthermore, since December 2024, 12 children have gone missing in Karachi, with some being found and others still unaccounted for.
