Sharjah Literature Festival: Celebrating Emirati Tales and Culture
The first-ever Sharjah Literature Festival has concluded, leaving a significant mark on the cultural scene of Sharjah, UAE. The festival, themed 'Emirati Tales Inspire the Future', was a five-day celebration of Emirati literature and culture. It was organized by the Sharjah Book Authority and the Emirates Publishers Association, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi and guided by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi.
The event featured 29 esteemed guests and 12 moderators, who participated in 20 sessions and panel discussions. These discussions explored the past, present, and future of Emirati literature and its role in promoting national and creative values. The festival also included 9 interactive workshops on topics like space exploration and Arabic calligraphy, and a book exhibition with 41 Emirati publishers.
Visitors enjoyed 25 musical performances, including a piano recital by Iman Al Hashimi, the first Emirati female composer. The festival also offered shopping experiences and culinary delights from 10 restaurants. Rashid Al Kous, Executive Director of the Emirates Publishers Association, expressed pride in the festival's success and its role in celebrating Emirati cultural identity.
The festival's conclusion marks the beginning of a promising journey for this new cultural platform, with hopes of becoming a global literary event in the future.
