S Jaishankar Meets SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev in Delhi
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently met with the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Nurlan Yermekbayev, in New Delhi. This meeting marked Yermekbayev's first official visit to India. Jaishankar congratulated him on his new role and discussed India's contributions to the SCO, including the development of a SECURE SCO.
Earlier, Tanmay Lal, Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs, also met with Yermekbayev to explore various cooperation opportunities within the SCO. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized the importance of this visit in enhancing regional cooperation, security, and economic development.
During the 23rd SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting in Islamabad, Jaishankar signed eight outcome documents showcasing India's initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure. He highlighted the importance of fair connectivity projects that align with international law and the goals of the UN and SCO Charters.
