In Islamabad, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan emphasized the importance of dialogue as the solution to the current political situation. This statement follows the government's decision, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to form a negotiation committee to address opposition demands. The committee's formation was prompted by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq's intervention.
Gohar Khan stressed the need for government and opposition engagement to resolve the political deadlock. He stated, "Dialogue is the only way forward," highlighting the committee's role in political resolution.
Earlier, PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan warned of a civil disobedience movement starting December 14 if demands were unmet. These demands include releasing political prisoners and establishing a judicial commission to investigate events on May 9 and November 26, 2023. Imran Khan announced a five-member negotiation team, including Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Government legal adviser Barrister Aqeel Malik confirmed the government's committee formation, with members to be announced soon. Imran Khan's sister, Aleema Khan, expressed doubts about the government's willingness to negotiate, citing ongoing legal actions against PTI workers. She reiterated demands for releasing imprisoned PTI workers and forming a judicial commission.
PTI lawyer Shoaib Shaheen echoed these concerns, noting no progress on the judicial commission's formation. He warned that the civil disobedience movement would continue if demands were unmet, urging overseas Pakistanis to halt remittances to Pakistan.
