New Delhi, India – As the nation celebrates the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi shared her thoughts on his lasting impact on society. She emphasized Gandhi’s teachings of truth, non-violence, and satyagraha, and highlighted his extensive travels across India to understand people’s suffering.

Priyanka Gandhi noted that Gandhi walked an average of 18 kilometers daily, enough to circle the earth twice in his lifetime. She also mentioned that Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, is currently on the ‘Vijay Sankalp Yatra’ in Haryana, a state with historical ties to Gandhi.

She recounted significant events in Gandhi’s life, such as his arrest at Palwal railway station in 1919, his visit to Rohtak in 1921 to lay the foundation of a school, and his multiple visits to Ambala. She also highlighted Gandhi’s efforts to unite communities, including his visit to Mewat in 1947 to reassure Muslims who were considering leaving for Pakistan.

Priyanka Gandhi concluded by saying that Gandhi’s life journey was about love, peace, harmony, freedom, equality, self-reliance, and self-respect. She urged people to realize these ideas as a true tribute to Gandhi.

Congress party President Mallikarjun Kharge also extended his wishes, stating that Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence, and satyagraha continue to inspire and guide the nation in facing current challenges.

Mahatma Gandhi, born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, led the Indian freedom struggle against British rule through non-violent resistance, ultimately achieving India’s independence in 1947.
