Prime Minister Modi Consoles Vinesh Phogat After Paris Olympics Disqualification
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024, which BJP MP Karan Bhushan Singh termed a loss for the country. Singh stated, “It is a loss for the country. The Federation will take this into consideration and see what can be done.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi consoled Vinesh Phogat, calling her a champion among champions. In a post on X, he said, “Vinesh, you are a champion among champions! You are India’s pride and an inspiration for each and every Indian. Today’s setback hurts. I wish words could express the sense of despair that I am experiencing. At the same time, I know that you epitomise resilience. It has always been your nature to take challenges head-on. Come back stronger! We are all rooting for you.”
Modi also spoke to Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha to get firsthand information on the issue and explore options to help Vinesh. He urged PT Usha to file a strong protest regarding her disqualification if it could help Vinesh.
Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the 50 kg women’s wrestling event for exceeding the weight limit. She was scheduled to compete against the United States’s Sarah Ann Hildebrandt in the Gold Medal match.
