South African cricketer Lizelle Lee has signed a new contract with the Hobart Hurricanes, ensuring her stay for at least two more seasons in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). Lee was the leading run-scorer for the Hurricanes with 409 runs at an average of 37.18 and a strike rate of 146.07, including an unbeaten 101 against Melbourne Renegades. She expressed her excitement about the team’s progress and her role in aiming for their first WBBL trophy.

Cricket Tasmania’s general manager, Salliann Beams, praised the pairing of Lee and Elyse Villani at the top order, calling them the most experienced and talented opening pair in the WBBL. Beams highlighted Lee’s versatility and game-changing abilities both with the bat and in the field.

Hurricanes head coach Jude Coleman had previously indicated the team’s interest in adding another top-order batter in the WBBL draft. The Hurricanes also retain the rights for South African pacer Shabnim Ismail, who took 13 wickets last season.
