Israel’s Alex Gandler Discusses Response to Iran’s Rocket Attacks

Tel Aviv [Israel], October 2: As tensions rise in the Middle East, Alex Gandler, Deputy Spokesperson of the Israel Ministry of External Affairs, emphasized that Israel’s actions are driven by strategic goals rather than a ‘tit-for-tat’ approach. Gandler highlighted the effectiveness of Israel’s air defense system and coalition in intercepting around 180 rockets fired by Iran and its Revolutionary Guards, resulting in no casualties.

Gandler stated, “We have strategic goals to deal with Iran. Israel is working to defeat all the proxies of Iran, be it Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis, or others.” He also mentioned that Israel aims to free buffer regions from Iran’s influence.

Regarding United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Gandler noted that Guterres has been declared ‘persona non grata’ in Israel due to his perceived lack of support during the conflict.

Gandler praised the strong relationship between Israel and India, emphasizing their solid ties in economy, defense, and mutual values.

The situation escalated after Iran launched nearly 200 ballistic missiles towards Israel, prompting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to describe the attack as a “big mistake” and warn that Tehran would face consequences. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) also called for the evacuation of Lebanese civilians in southern Lebanon.

In response, Iran’s Foreign Ministry justified the missile strikes as a response to Israel’s aggressive actions and the killings of key figures from Hamas and Hezbollah.
