India and Israel Discuss Boosting Trade and Connectivity

Meeting Between S Jaishankar and Nir Barkat

In New Delhi, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Israel's Minister of Economy and Industry, Nir Barkat, to discuss enhancing trade, technology, and investment ties. Jaishankar shared on social media that they explored ways to strengthen cooperation and exchanged views on regional developments.

During the visit, Minister Barkat emphasized the importance of increased connectivity, particularly through more flight operations, to boost business and tourism. He expressed optimism about the potential for bilateral business growth, stating, "The sky is the limit." Barkat believes that with better trade agreements and collaborations, the countries can achieve significant growth in the coming years.

Addressing safety concerns due to recent regional conflicts, Barkat assured that Israel is "100 percent safe" for travel and business, highlighting the ongoing operations of Israeli airline El Al as proof of stability. He encouraged more flights and visits to foster business opportunities.

India and Israel have enjoyed rapid growth in relations since establishing diplomatic ties in 1992, particularly in trade and economic sectors. India is Israel's second-largest trading partner in Asia, with trade historically focused on diamonds, petroleum products, and chemicals. Recently, there has been a rise in trade involving high-tech products, electronic machinery, communication systems, and medical equipment. India remains a key focus for Israel's expanding trade efforts.
