Nepal's Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel to visit India next week
Nepali Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel's Visit to India
General Ashok Raj Sigdel, the Chief of the Nepali Army, is set to visit India from December 11 to December 14, as announced by Nepal's Ministry of Defence. During his visit, he will be honored with the rank of Honorary General of the Indian Army by the President of India. General Sigdel will also attend the passing out parade of Officer Cadets at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun as a Reviewing Officer.
In addition to these events, General Sigdel is expected to meet with key Indian leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. This visit follows the recent visit of Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi to Nepal, where he was similarly honored by the President of Nepal.
The tradition of exchanging honorary General titles between the two countries has been in place for over seven decades, starting with Indian Army Chief General KM Cariappa in 1950. This practice highlights the strong military ties between Nepal and India, further strengthened by the Gurkha Regiment, with over 30,000 Gurkha soldiers from Nepal serving in the Indian Army.
These high-level visits and exchanges continue to enhance the bilateral relationship, allowing leaders to regularly review and strengthen their partnership.
