Heavy Snow Disrupts Flights in UK and Germany

On January 6, heavy snowfall caused significant disruptions to air travel in both the UK and Germany. Several UK airports, including Manchester, Liverpool's John Lennon, Newcastle International, and Birmingham, temporarily closed their runways due to snow and ice. The UK's Met Office issued snow and ice warnings for Northern Ireland, Scotland, and parts of England, while a yellow rain warning was in place for Wales.

Manchester Airport reopened its runways around 9:45 am after clearing the snow, and Liverpool's John Lennon Airport followed suit at 10:15 am. Birmingham Airport also reopened after a temporary closure, advising passengers to check for updates. Bristol Airport faced closures on Saturday but reopened later in the evening.

In Germany, Frankfurt Airport cancelled 120 flights due to runway clearance and visibility issues, while Munich Airport operated with only one runway open. Stuttgart Airport faced delays with de-icing, and Cologne experienced up to 10 centimeters of snow. Germany's weather service issued black ice warnings, urging people to stay home.

Train routes in the UK were also affected, with speed restrictions and line closures implemented for safety. National Highways issued a severe weather alert, advising road users to exercise caution.
