Geeta Jain to Run as Independent in Mira Bhayandar After BJP Denies Ticket

Geeta Jain, a leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has announced her decision to contest the upcoming elections as an independent candidate from the Mira Bhayandar constituency. Jain, who is the current independent MLA for the area, expressed her disappointment after BJP chose Narendra Mehta as their candidate for the seat.

Jain claimed that she was assured a ticket by senior BJP leaders but was denied at the last moment. She questioned the decision, especially since Mehta has several criminal cases against him. Jain stated that Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed her of certain compulsions that led to this decision.

In the 2019 elections, Jain ran as an independent after BJP fielded Mehta and won by a margin of 15,000 votes. She has previously served as the Mayor of Mira Bhayandar for BJP and later supported the Mahayuti alliance.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are set for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23. The Mahayuti alliance, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), is preparing for the elections against the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress.

The Model Code of Conduct for the elections began on October 15, with the last date for filing nominations on October 31. The scrutiny of nominations is underway, and withdrawals are allowed until November 4.
