In Tel Aviv, Israel, a case of H5N1 bird flu has been confirmed in a flock of turkeys at Kibbutz Tzora, located in the Mateh Yehuda Regional Council. The outbreak was identified after an unusual mortality of about 19,300 turkeys, aged 6.7 weeks, across four chicken coops. Samples were sent to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security's laboratories, which confirmed the presence of the virus.
This marks the 16th case of bird flu in commercial chicken coops during the current flu season. In the past two weeks, two additional cases were also discovered in a turkey coop at the same location.
To prevent the spread of the disease, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is following procedures recommended by the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH). A quarantine zone has been established within a 10 km radius of the infected area, restricting poultry movement and prohibiting the population of poultry houses. Strict biosecurity measures are being enforced for those involved in the industry.
The Ministry's veterinary services are actively monitoring all poultry houses in the area. They urge breeders of ornamental birds and poultry farms, including free-range farms, to keep their birds indoors to minimize the risk of infection from wild birds during migration.
