Arvind Kejriwal Responds to PM Modi’s Criticism on Ayushman Bharat Scheme

In New Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi and national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s criticism regarding the non-implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi. Kejriwal stated that it was inappropriate to politicize public health issues. He emphasized that the Delhi government provides free medical treatment to all residents, regardless of cost, and questioned the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

Prime Minister Modi had criticized the Delhi and West Bengal governments for not implementing the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which aims to provide free health insurance to low-income families. Modi apologized to elderly citizens in these states, citing political interests as a barrier to the scheme’s implementation.

Kejriwal countered by highlighting alleged irregularities in the Ayushman Bharat Yojana and urged Modi to consider adopting the Delhi model of healthcare nationwide. He claimed that the Delhi model offers comprehensive free treatment to all residents and challenged the effectiveness of the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

Modi, addressing a gathering at the All India Institute of Ayurveda, expressed regret for the elderly in Delhi and West Bengal, stating that political decisions have hindered their access to the scheme. He also noted India’s growing reputation as a center for medical and wellness tourism.
