A protest organized by the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) party in Karachi escalated into violence on Tuesday. The police used shelling to disperse the crowd at Numaish Chowrangi, which led to protesters retaliating by throwing stones. Several police officers, including SSP Keamari Faizan Ali and members of the Special Security Unit (SSU) Commandos, were injured. The police detained multiple protesters for attacking officials.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah condemned the violence, emphasizing that damage to public and private property would not be tolerated. He stated, "Everyone has the right to protest, but causing damage to public property is an act of mischief." Legal action will be taken against those responsible for setting vehicles on fire. The Chief Minister also mentioned that specific platforms have been designated for protests and should be used appropriately.
MWM called for nationwide protests in support of the people of Parachinar, who are demanding justice and peace amid ongoing violence. MWM leader Allama Hasan Zafar Naqvi assured that the sit-ins were peaceful and not politically motivated. He urged the Sindh government not to exploit the situation for political purposes. Naqvi warned that if undue pressure was placed on the Jafariya community, the protests would continue and could expand across Sindh.
