Record Number of New Recruits Join Israel Police in 2024
In 2024, the Israel Police experienced a significant increase in recruitment, adding 3,822 new officers. This marked a positive change after years of declining numbers. In contrast, only 2,018 officers completed their service in the same year. The police force had been growing since 2023, with a total increase of 2,788 officers over two years.
Despite claims of receiving 6,000 new positions over 2023-24, only 1,650 positions were actually filled. An agreement with the Ministry of Finance promised 715 additional positions by the end of December 2024, but this was canceled unilaterally by the Ministry.
The Israel Police highlighted ongoing challenges, including manpower shortages due to wage erosion and increased security demands. They expressed concern over the Finance Ministry's decision to freeze salary increases, which could hinder recruitment efforts and impact state security and public service.
