Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi Honors Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri
On October 2, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi paid floral tributes to the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at the Secretariat in Dehradun. This event marked the 155th birth anniversary of Gandhi and the 120th birth anniversary of Shastri.
During the ceremony, Bharatkhande Music College performed Gandhi’s favorite bhajan, ‘Vaishnav Jan,’ in unison. Chief Secretary Raturi highlighted the enduring relevance of Gandhi’s thoughts and principles, urging everyone to follow his path of truth, non-violence, and love to build a better society.
Raturi stated, “Every year on this day we remember two great leaders, Gandhi Ji and Shastri Ji. Father of the Nation Gandhi Ji’s favorite bhajan ‘Vaishnav Jan’ contains a complete philosophy, which inspires us to maintain many human values of life. Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts and principles are relevant to us even today. We should follow the path shown by him, so that we can build a better society. We should take inspiration to walk on the path of truth, non-violence and love. Mahatma Gandhi’s life teaches us that truth and service to humanity are most important.”
She further emphasized that the true tribute to Gandhi would be for government servants to prioritize public interest and perform their duties with utmost humanity and sensitivity.
Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated annually to honor the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, known as the ‘Father of the Nation.’ Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, Gandhi led the non-violent resistance against British colonial rule, which eventually led to India’s independence in 1947.
Lal Bahadur Shastri, born in Uttar Pradesh in 1904, served as India’s second Prime Minister from 1964 to 1966. He passed away in Tashkent on January 11, 1966, shortly after signing the Tashkent Pact with Pakistan.
