In New Delhi, Union Minister Chirag Paswan emphasized the importance of the younger generation engaging in debates about the Indian Constitution, which has been the foundation of India's democracy for 75 years. He reflected on the 1975 emergency, which threatened the Constitution, and encouraged youth to learn from the ongoing Lok Sabha debates.
Paswan criticized opposition members for carrying the Constitution in their pockets, suggesting their actions don't always align with its principles. He stated, "The people who walk around with the copy of the Constitution in their pockets...They stated that the Constitution would come to an end. It is the Constitution of Bharat. It is not a joke."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also addressed the Lok Sabha, criticizing the Congress party for disrespecting the Constitution. He presented eleven pledges for India's future, urging the government and citizens to fulfill their duties and avoid "parivarvad" or nepotism in politics. Modi accused the Congress of undermining the Constitution and highlighted the lack of elected government from 1947 to 1952.
The two-day debate on the Constitution's 75th anniversary began on December 13, during the winter session of Parliament, which started on November 25 and will continue until December 20.
