A powerful earthquake struck Dingri County in Xigaze City, located in the Xizang Autonomous Region of China, increasing the death toll to 95. Initially, 53 fatalities were reported, but the number has since risen. The earthquake also injured 130 people and damaged over 1,000 houses in the area.
The epicenter of the earthquake is in a sparsely populated region, with about 6,900 residents living in 27 villages within a 20-kilometer radius. The nearest major city, Shigatse, is approximately 180 kilometers away.
Response and Rescue Efforts
Chinese leader Xi Jinping urged officials to focus on rescuing survivors and ensuring the safety and warmth of affected residents during the winter. The United States Geological Survey reported the earthquake as a 7.1-magnitude event, occurring at a depth of 10 kilometers, followed by 49 aftershocks.
The Chinese military, through the People's Liberation Army Western Theater Command, deployed drones to assess the situation. They have also prepared transport and medical planes, helicopters, and ground forces for disaster relief.

The tremors were felt in Nepal's capital, Kathmandu, and Bihar's Sheohar district in India, prompting evacuations. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported in these areas.
