In an exciting development, the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology (IGB) from Germany has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar and the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani. This collaboration was announced during the visit of Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, the Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing of Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, to India.
The partnership aims to combine the strengths of both countries to enhance the water-energy-food nexus, promoting a sustainable and climate-neutral economy. The cooperation between Fraunhofer IGB and IIT Ropar will focus on research and development, identifying technology gaps, and improving industry solutions. This includes supporting India's national missions like Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat.
The collaboration will also facilitate technology transfer and licensing agreements with industry stakeholders. Training on integrating technologies like AI, machine learning, and automation into the water ecosystem will be a key focus.
Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut emphasized the importance of these collaborations in addressing global challenges in health, water, energy, and sustainability. Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar, highlighted the partnership's potential to advance water technology and create a robust Water Innovation Ecosystem.
