A devastating gun attack on passenger vehicles in Kurram, Pakistan, has resulted in the death of 45 people. The incident occurred as a convoy of approximately 200 vehicles was traveling from Parachinar to Peshawar. Among the deceased was journalist Janan Hussain, who was returning to his hometown of Parachinar from Malaysia.
The attack left over 37 people injured, who are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals across the district. The deceased have been moved to Parachinar for their funerals. The convoy was ambushed by gunmen, and the attack is believed to be linked to ongoing sectarian violence between Shiite and Sunni Muslim tribes in the region.
Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsood has indicated that the death toll may rise as more bodies are recovered. The Toori tribe has declared a three-day mourning period to honor those who lost their lives in the attack.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which is part of a series of violent incidents attributed to a land dispute that has caused over 100 deaths between August and October.
