A court in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Bushra Bibi, the wife of Imran Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. This is part of an investigation into a GBP 190 million corruption case linked to the Al-Qadir University Trust. The court, led by Judge Nasir Javed Rana, is looking into financial discrepancies involving the former Prime Minister and his family.
Imran Khan, who was also present in court, and Bushra Bibi had previously been granted bail by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) concerning the National Crime Agency (NCA) settlement reference. The IHC, with Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, had ordered Khan's release on a PKR 1 million surety bond.
In a separate development, Bushra Bibi released a video message urging PTI supporters to join a protest on November 24, calling it a "final or do-or-die" rally against the government. She claimed that negative propaganda against her family began after their visit to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, with accusations against her husband of being a "Jewish agent."
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is investigating the alleged misallocation of PKR 50 billion, equivalent to GBP 190 million, sent by the UK's NCA to Pakistan. This led to a corruption reference involving Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and others related to the Al-Qadir University project, filed on December 26, 2019.
