Tragic Accident in Mumbai: 18-Month-Old Falls into Open Drain
An unfortunate incident occurred in Mumbai where an 18-month-old boy, Krishna Omprakash Gupta, fell into an open drain near Maurya Hall on Gaondevi Road in Bhandup (West). The accident happened around 6:30 pm on a Sunday evening.
Details of the Incident
The Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that the boy slipped through a small opening in a partially covered drain section. The family had encroached upon the area for disposing of home waste, which led to the tragic accident.
Immediate Response
Krishna was quickly taken to MT Agrawal Hospital, where he was declared “brought dead” at 6:35 pm. Dr. Sneha Khedekar, a Senior Medical Officer, confirmed the drowning incident.
Inspection and Findings
The BMC’s statement highlighted that the major drain on Gaondevi Road is mostly open, but some residents have covered parts of it for convenience. The victim’s family had also closed part of the drain, leaving a small opening for their waste pipe, which resulted in the accident. Following the incident, BMC’s ward and stormwater drainage teams inspected the site.
