Kurram Peace Deal to Begin in Pakistan

The Kurram peace deal is set to start on January 4, allowing a convoy of passengers to travel to Parachinar under a security escort. This agreement, reached during a grand Jirga, mandates the demolition of all bunkers within 15 days and the collection of all arms to be handed over to the government. The aim is to restore normalcy in the region.

Despite the peace deal, protests continue in Parachinar and Baggan, with demonstrators demanding the government open all roads, including the main highway, and ensure security. In Baggan, protesters insist on continuing their sit-in until all arms are handed over and bunkers demolished. They also seek compensation for destroyed shops and homes in Baggan Bazaar.

The grand Jirga, which lasted three weeks, successfully concluded with both parties signing an agreement. Jirga members stressed that both parties must adhere to the Apex Committee's decisions. A 16-member committee will be formed to oversee the process, and a government-supervised plan will be created to collect weapons.

Abdullah Khan, a Jirga member, stated that bunkers from Teri Mangal to Chehri will be dismantled, and all roads, including the Tal-Parachinar Road, will be reopened for public use.
