In the Sharon region of Israel, the H5N1 avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, has been detected in two new locations. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has established a quarantine zone extending up to 10 kilometers from the affected chicken coops.
The first new case was found in a turkey coop in Moshav Kfar Vitkin, which contains around 12,800 turkeys aged 12 weeks, spread across six buildings. The second case was identified in a training coop for breeding turkeys in Kibbutz Ma'in Zvi, housing approximately 7,600 turkeys aged 15.4 weeks in two buildings.
Previously, two cases were reported in the same areas last week. During the current migration season of 2024-2025, eight instances of avian influenza have been identified by the Ministry. The first case was in Moshav Nahalal, followed by others in Moshav Ram-On, another coop in Nahalal, Kibbutz Alonim, and Kibbutz Tzora between September and October. The latest cases were also in Kibbutz Ma'in Zvi and Moshav Kfar Vitkin.
