The Tibetan government-in-exile celebrated the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. The event was attended by Tharlam Dolma, President of the Central Tibetan Administration, who served as the chief guest. Information Minister Norzin Dolma and other staff members of the Central Tibetan Administration also participated in the celebration near the Tibetan parliament.

Tharlam Dolma spoke to the media, emphasizing the global importance of Gandhi’s teachings of non-violence and truth. She highlighted that for Tibetans, following Gandhi’s principles is crucial, as guided by the Dalai Lama. When asked about China’s stance on Gandhi’s teachings, she expressed uncertainty but noted that many Chinese people follow the Dalai Lama and understand the importance of non-violence.

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated annually to honor Mahatma Gandhi, who was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat. Gandhi led India’s non-violent resistance against British colonial rule, ultimately achieving independence in 1947.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in New Delhi. In a post on X, he emphasized the enduring impact of Gandhi’s principles of truth, harmony, and equality, which continue to inspire the nation.
