Protest in Gwadar: Demands for Power Solutions and Fishermen Rights
In Gwadar, Pakistan, a sit-in protest organized by an All Parties Alliance has been ongoing for two weeks. The protest continues as discussions with local authorities have not yet resolved the issues. The protesters have stated that they will maintain the sit-in until their demands are met.
Key Demands
The alliance has several demands, including the end of power outages and high electricity bills in the Makran region. They also want a stop to illegal trawling between Jewani and Gadani. Additionally, they are calling for the construction of promised fishermen colonies in Ormara, Jewani, Pasni, and Gwadar.
Other demands include the abolition of the token system, allowing business through the Kontani border using CNICs, relocating a proposed shipyard from Surbandan to Kupper, Kalmat, and distributing aid to families affected by rain. They also want dredging of the Pasni fish harbor and payment of salaries.
Official Response
An official committee, including ADC Bohair Dashti, GDA Chief Engineer Haji Syed Muhammad, and Naib Tehsildar Munir Ahmed Zamrani, has engaged in talks with the alliance leaders. The committee assured that the demands would be discussed with higher authorities. They have deployed 100 Levies personnel to reduce trawling activities and approved the construction of fishermen colonies.
Alliance convener Abdul Ghafoor Hoth and BNP leader Majid Sohrabi are actively participating in the discussions with the administration.
