This time, Tamim informed the Bangladesh selectors in Sylhet of his decision, despite encouragement from the selection panel and teammates like captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to reconsider.
In a Facebook post, Tamim expressed his thoughts, stating, "I have been away from international cricket for a long time. That distance will remain. My chapter in international cricket is over." He emphasized that he did not want to distract the team during the upcoming Champions Trophy.
Although the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was willing to wait until the last moment for his decision, Tamim had already opted out of the central contracts for 2024, indicating his withdrawal from international cricket. He has been active in domestic cricket, leading Barishal to victory in the 2024 BPL and earning the 'Player of the Tournament' award.
Tamim dismissed the BCB's anticipation for his response as "unnecessary," stating, "I removed myself from the BCB central contract a long time ago because I did not want to return to international cricket." He concluded that the decision to retire is a personal right of any professional sportsman.
