On January 13, the Ministry of National Defence (MND) of Taiwan reported the detection of six aircraft from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and six naval vessels from the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) near Taiwan. Four of these aircraft crossed the median line, entering Taiwan's northern and southwestern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). The Ministry shared these details on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, "6 PLA aircraft and 6 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 4 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's southwestern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly."
Previously, on January 12, the Ministry detected eight PLA aircraft and six PLAN vessels, with seven aircraft crossing the median line into Taiwan's ADIZ. This situation is part of the ongoing Taiwan-China geopolitical conflict, which revolves around Taiwan's sovereignty. Taiwan, known as the Republic of China (ROC), functions independently with its own government and military. However, China views Taiwan as a breakaway province under the "One China" policy, aiming for reunification. This has led to decades of tension since the Chinese Civil War, with China applying various pressures to isolate Taiwan internationally.

Sovereignty means having full control and authority over a territory. In this context, it refers to Taiwan wanting to be recognized as an independent country, while China claims it as part of its own territory.
