Taiwan Monitors Chinese Aircraft and Naval Vessels Near Its Borders
On Sunday, Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported the detection of nine Chinese aircraft and six naval vessels around the island. Four of these aircraft crossed the median line, entering Taiwan's southwestern and eastern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). The MND shared this information on X, stating, "9 PLA aircraft and 6 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today." They assured that the situation is being monitored and responded to accordingly.
On the previous day, Saturday, the MND had detected 17 aircraft and six naval vessels from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) near the island, with thirteen aircraft crossing the median line into Taiwan's southwestern ADIZ.
Recently, China has been enhancing its naval capabilities, including launching a large landing helicopter assault vessel and producing floating bridge docks, indicating potential plans to invade Taiwan. The Taiwan-China issue is a longstanding geopolitical conflict over Taiwan's sovereignty. Taiwan, known as the Republic of China (ROC), functions independently with its own government and military. However, China views Taiwan as a breakaway province under the "One China" policy, aiming for reunification.
This conflict dates back to the Chinese Civil War (1945-1949), when the ROC government retreated to Taiwan after the Communist Party took control of mainland China. Beijing continues to exert diplomatic, economic, and military pressure to isolate Taiwan, while Taiwan maintains its independence with significant support from its population.
